"This large pattern is from one of the very first knitting pattern manuals of the 1840s" says Sharon Miller in Heirloom Knitting. It's not as symmetrical as it could be. The upper arms of the Xs are smaller than the lower ones.

Pseudo knitting

Running the diagram through some filters, it looks surprisingly like a knitted fabric. Hollywood, are you watching? So far, you haven't been doing too well with knits in animation.
